World WAR Two, THE WAR IN EUROPE.The war in Europe began in September 1939, when Germany, under Chancellor Adolph Hitler, invaded Poland. Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany but took little action over the following months. In1940, Germany launched its next initiative by attacking Denmark and Norway, followed shortly thereafter by attacks on Belgium, Holland, and France. All of these nations were conquered rapidly. The U.S was neutral in europe a side from Small amounts of pilots and soldiers who were sent to fight along side the British. The war in the Pacific began on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The U.S then declared war and On June 6, 1944 allied troops landed along a 50 mile stretch of heavily fortified French coastline, this military operation was known as D-day. After the allies had a foot hold on European soil the chase was one, General Patton lead an assualt on the Nazis like no war had seen before, Tearing through German defenses and killing all he could, he saw oppportunity while other generals saw risks. He is now recongnized as one of the greatest generals in amrican history. The Nazis were in retreat ever sense D-day and a victory in Noirmandy, but Hitler wasn't giving up. While allies pushed their way into Germany winter set in and the Hitler put his army on the offensive for the first time sense Normandy in an assault known as the battle of the bulge. The allies pace was slowed but after the winter months had past and their air power could be used more effectively and the race to berlin was on. The U.S in the west and the Soviets in the east, Hitler was left to defend his last strong hold in berlin.

Although stunned by the attack at Pearl Harbor, the Pacific American Fleet's aircraft carriers, submarines and, most importantly, its fuel oil storage facilities emerged unscathed. These assets formed the foundation for the American response that led to a victory at the Battle of Midway the following June.
